Main Content

Piezoelectric sensors and transducers from CTS enable numerous advanced technologies across a myriad of industries, whereever conversion between mechanical and electric energy is needed. We offer high-performing build-to-print solutions as well as more customized, in-house sensor and transducer design. Working closely with our you, the customer, we determine the optimal design and material for the application in question. Then, feasibility studies and simulations will be conducted, after which a prototype batch is produced. Based on the prototype performance, the sensor or transducer design can be further optimized before it enters production.

CTS piezoelectric sensors and transducers are utilized in markets and applications such as:

  • Flowmeters
  • Active Sonar Devices
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound (Dental)
  • Hydrophones
  • Accelerometers
  • Ultrasonic Cleaning/Welding/Cutting
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
  • Equipment Monitoring, IIoT
  • Distance Measurement

Piezoelectric Aerial Transducers from CTS Corporation

Aerial Transducers

Aerial transducers from CTS are designed for operation in mediums with low acoustic impedance. Typical applications include gas flow measurement, where acoustic waves are sent back and forth between two transducers, distance measurement - often employed in the field of automation - where ultrasonic transducers offer improved dust tolerance compared to optical systems, and gas leak detection, where a transducer converts sound waves into electrical signals, thereby warning of potential leaks.

Piezoelectric Contact Transducers from CTS Corporation

Contact Transducers

High-frequency transducers offer finer spatial resolution for measurements in solids. CTS contact transducers are typically used in the fields of non-destructive testing and inspection, with our solutions ranging from corrosion monitoring in heavy industry pipes to extremely high frequency acoustic microscopy scanning (200MHz) for quality inspection of very fine semiconductor packaging.

Piezoelectric Immersion Transducers from CTS Corporation

Immersion Transducers

Immersion transducers are optimized for interfacing with materials that have an acoustic impedance of around 1MRayl, such as water or human tissue. The range of applications is wide, covering the industrial, medical and underwater markets, and the same can be said of the frequency spectrum. Flowmeters typically operate in the MHz range where long distance sonar transducers are designed for only a few tens of kHz. Thanks to the lack of any moving parts, ultrasonic flow meters are considerably less susceptible to environmental influence than mechanical meters, typically resulting in more reliable operation over time. Other applications include medical Doppler transducers and underwater speed logs.

Piezoelectric Power Ultrasound Transducers from CTS Corporation

Power Ultrasound Transducers

Power ultrasound transducers take advantage of our wide range of high-power materials, typically in form of a stack of rings under high preload. Both the design, material and assembly of these transducers are fine-tuned to achieve and handle the high-power acoustic energy, with applications ranging from medical therapeutics such as ultrasonic scalpels and minimally/non-invasive surgery that reducing patient recovery time to industrial applications including ultrasonic cleaning and welding.

Sensors

As opposed to transducers, piezoelectric sensors do not generate acoustic waves. Instead, they are designed solely to receive and measure sound, vibrations or pressure. Applications include accelerometers and shock sensors for instrumentation or industrial equipment monitoring and heavy equipment strain monitoring. Also, piezoelectric sensors are used in bone conduction microphones that are particularly sensitive to vibrations in the audible range.
