Accelerometers
Piezoelectric-based accelerometers offer solutions for the detection shear and compression where acceleration/deceleration forces are present such as impact, dynamic pressure, and motion.
Piezo accelerometers are commonly found in motion measurement for ship, aircraft, and military industries or in industrial applications involving vibration detection of a machine, fluid movement, building, or other physical structures.
Knock Sensors
Knock sensors (subset of accelerometers) are used to detect irregular vibrations caused by uneven cylinder combustion in engines. Piezo knock sensors are an essential component in optimizing fuel economy for internal combustion engines. Knock sensor data is direct input device to the power-train control module that can then decide to advance or slow engine timing to reduce engine knock or “ping” to maximize fuel economy and reduce emissions.
Standard CTS recommended piezo materials are 3195HD and 3203HD.
